About me

by Dr. Desiree Cremer

The conversations for stories of practice on movement, mindfulness, and social justice evolve when creating meals. As I slice, chop, and prepare meals, thoughts for the next podcast and blog sometimes come while spicing and marinating dishes. The kitchen is the headquarters where the creative process stirs. This is the Cooking Choreographer; I am Desiree Cremer.

I teach dance, ballet, modern dance, and choreography; an educator for over 20 years. The cooking choreographer shares practice stories from people undertaking the creative process. You will find blogs on stories of practice, access and equity, educational journeys, and ideas for recipes that calm and inspire the choreographic process.

During the apartheid years, my mother in Cape Town, South Africa, cooked for a large family on a sparse budget. I remember in our small family kitchen the lively conversations that took place around my mom’s cooking. Sometimes when I create movement phrases for choreography, it is like preparing a meal. For it is calm and familiar.

  2. Mahalo for sharing this comforting and apt analogy for the creative process. It makes me want to sit in your aromatic kitchen and brainstorm about how we can transform educational opportunities for students!
